Research has shown that children with good social skills have happier, more successful adult lives. And, contrary to what people often think, social skills can be learned and improved upon. This is one area where it’s crucial for parents and other adults who work with children to have a growth mindset!
If you follow my blog, you know that I’ve been researching, writing about, and training camp counselors about specific social skills kids need and how we can coach kids to develop better skills.
Whether we call them “interpersonal skills,” “emotional intelligence,” or “social skills,” the bottom line is that these skills are vitally important to our children’s happiness and success in life. I believe that social skills are much more important than academic or athletic skills and need to be given more of our attention.
